“Snooki” linguistics
I just want to say something that is obvious to me, but maybe less obvious to everyone else who didn’t know 47 girls named Nicole growing up. Or maybe it’s obvious to everyone, who knows. Ok, so I’ve heard a few people pronounce the “Snook” part like the “oo” in “moon,” but it’s supposed to rhyme with “book.” Everyone gets that the name comes from “Nicole,” right? If you start with Nicole, and then Nicky, and get the nickname “Snicky”/”Snickers” out of it, “Snook” (rhymes with book) is a natural progression. Your girl “Snickers” easily becomes “Snooki” when you’re playing around with the name. Snick snook snack, snookers, snooki. “Snük” or whatever with the long oo-sound is just weird.
J-Woww is a bit more of a leap from Jen. I knew a lot of Jens growing up but none go by that.
